ABS-CBN News has reported the death of Rolando Mendoza, an ex-police officer who hijacked a tour bus in Manila earlier today. A Sharpshooting team shot him after he took some 20 passengers hostage with an M-16 rifle. The entire hostage situation took place over an 11 hour period and ended with the death of Mendoza. At least 4 of the hostages were killed from early reports, and several others were injured. Mendoza took over the tour bus this morning after losing his job with the police department about a year ago. A gunman forced his way onto a tourist bus in the Philippines with a loaded rifle in hand. After a 10-hour standoff, the suspect is now dead, several hostages were killed and wounded, some escaped without harm. Watch video footage of police storming the bus. Rolando Mendoza, a distraught ex-police captain, staged the hijacking of a bus with about 25 hostages to try to recover his job. The ex-police captain was discharged a year ago for alleged extortion charges, this has yet to be confirmed. He was wearing his old uniform while carrying a rifle throughout the incident.
